University of Victoria scientist develop frontline tools to fight Zika virus

June 8, 2016 - New tools are being developed by a scientist at the University of Victoria (UVic), in the Canadian province of British Columbia, to help the international battle against the Zika virus.

The UVic scientist, Dr. Alexandre Brolo, remembers seeing the struggle to control outbreaks of another mosquito-borne disease, dengue fever, as a child growing up in Brazil. Today, he is developing two tools that can be used in the field by workers with smartphones to collect information that will help governments contain outbreaks and prevent them from happening.
