Canada launches new immigration pathway for international graduates

April 29, 2021 – On April 14, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced new pathways for over 90,000 international student graduates and temporary workers in Canada to become permanent residents. Beginning May 6th, 2021, IRCC will accept applications under the following new immigration stream options:

  • 40,000 applications for international students who graduated from a Canadian institution
  • 20,000 applications for temporary workers in health care
  • 30,000 applications for temporary workers in other essential occupations

International students must have completed an eligible Canadian post-secondary program within the last 4 years. These application streams will remain open until November 5, 2021, or until they have reached their limit.

Immigration remains critical to Canada’s economic recovery during the pandemic, as this will address labour shortages and add growth to our workforce.
