Every year, students from around the world pack their bags for an unforgettable study journey to Canada thanks to one of our many international scholarship programs. These opportunities open doors to world-class education, cultural discovery, and personal growth.
For many students, scholarships provide more than just financial support. They provide an opportunity to grow and build lasting connections that reach far beyond borders.
Whether you are interested in coming to Canada for research, short-term study, or an exchange program, EduCanada's scholarship programs will provide you with a chance to return home with new skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of Canada and the world.
Feature on the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program

The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) is one of the Government of Canada’s most popular scholarship programs. It is designed to support the next generation of leaders and strengthen ties between schools in Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Through short-term exchanges, students can study or conduct research in Canada for four to six months at a college or university.
“The quality of education and the overall academic experience in Canada were excellent, with professors and colleagues always supportive and open to collaboration.
The research facilities were modern and well equipped, providing access to advanced technologies that greatly enriched my academic work.
One of the highlights of my stay was the opportunity to be actively involved in hands-on laboratory experiments, which enhanced both my technical expertise and problem-solving skills.”
Fernando Erick Santos da Silva, ELAP recipient from University of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), studying at the Université de Sherbrooke (Quebec)
Once in Canada, ELAP recipients quickly discover that learning happens both inside and outside the classroom. Many students describe their time in Canada as transformative, from studying with experienced professors to exploring Canada’s welcoming and diverse culture.
“One aspect that both surprised and delighted me was how involved the university is in fostering social engagement. From the various clubs you can join to the wide range of activities and events catering to diverse interests, the university encourages students to participate and engage with others.”
Camila Leonori, ELAP recipient from Universidad Blas Pascal (Argentina) studying at University of Lethbridge (Alberta)
Creating future leaders
Beyond academics, Canadian scholarships open doors to professional growth. Students build international networks, collaborate on research, and often return home inspired to contribute to their communities.
For many alumni, their experience in Canada strengthens their career prospects and gives them a broader global perspective.
“Beyond the research itself, my time in Canada allowed me to grow in confidence as an international researcher. I learned to navigate a multicultural environment, presented my work in English, and built professional relationships that have since evolved into long-term collaborations.”
Frederico Luiz Martins de Sousa, ELAP recipient from Brazil studying at Lakehead University (Ontario)
Students often highlight the safety, inclusiveness, and academic excellence that define the Canadian experience. They also appreciate the variety of courses available that give them the freedom to explore new subjects or deepen their expertise in their field.
