"My name is Justus Asasira from Uganda, a PhD student at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. I participated in Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS) and completed my scholarship program at the University of Calgary from January to July 2024. My research is on the cultural, economic and environmental factors influencing the acceptance of renewable energy applications in cooking in Ugandan households.
The University of Calgary gave me an amazing academic experience. It was an opportunity for me to meet and interact with other scholars from the entire globe. There is a hidden power in experts coming together to form one team. The research facilities are excellent with access to plenty of software to support students in research.
The Canadian culture is very rich and diverse. I got to know about the Indigenous people, rights and values in Canada. I always felt safe and secure during the scholarship program. I got a lot of help from people I never met in Canada especially whenever I was lost on the way! The generosity of the Canadians is amazing.
My experience gave me a rich experience in collaboration and networking. This is helping me to connect with other researchers globally to identify areas of shared research interests."
